1. Information We Collect

Sentinel Security LLC ("Sentinel," "we," "our") collects the following categories of information to provide and improve our home security services:

Account Information

Name, email address, phone number, billing address, and payment information provided during registration and account management.

Video and Audio Data

Live and recorded video footage, audio recordings (if enabled), snapshots, and thumbnails captured by Sentinel cameras and devices installed at your property.

Biometric Data

When you enable facial recognition features, we process facial geometry data to create face templates for person identification. This data is classified as biometric information under applicable state laws.

Device and Sensor Data

Device identifiers, firmware versions, Wi-Fi signal strength, motion sensor readings, door/window sensor states, hub status, and diagnostic telemetry from Sentinel hardware.

Usage Data

App usage patterns, feature interactions, notification preferences, IP addresses, browser type, and device information used to access the Sentinel platform.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide real-time security monitoring and alert services
  • Process and analyze video feeds using AI models for threat detection, person recognition, and event classification
  • Store and play back recorded security footage
  • Send security alerts, event notifications, and system updates
  • Process payments and manage subscriptions
  • Improve our AI models, detection accuracy, and service reliability
  • Provide customer support and respond to requests
  • Comply with legal obligations and law enforcement requests

3. Storage and Security

Video recordings and account data are stored on encrypted cloud infrastructure hosted in the United States. We implement industry-standard security measures including:

  • AES-256 encryption for data at rest
  • TLS 1.3 for all data in transit
  • Role-based access controls and audit logging for internal access
  • Regular security assessments and penetration testing
  • SOC 2 Type II compliant infrastructure

Cloud recordings are retained according to your subscription plan (typically 7, 30, or 90 days). You may delete recordings manually at any time. Upon account termination, all data is permanently deleted within 30 days.

4. Third-Party Services

We share data with the following categories of third-party providers, each bound by data processing agreements:

Payment Processing

Stripe, Inc. processes all payment transactions. We do not store your full credit card number. Stripe's privacy policy governs payment data handling.

Cloud Infrastructure

Google Cloud Platform (GCP) hosts our application infrastructure, video storage, and AI processing services. Data is processed in US-based data centers.

Analytics and Monitoring

We use anonymized and aggregated data for service monitoring and performance analytics. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

Law Enforcement

We may disclose information in response to valid legal process (subpoenas, court orders, warrants). We will notify you of such requests unless legally prohibited from doing so. We publish a transparency report annually.

5. Biometric Data (BIPA Compliance)

For users in Illinois and other jurisdictions with biometric privacy laws, the following additional disclosures apply:

  • Purpose: Facial geometry data is collected solely for the purpose of identifying known individuals (household members, trusted visitors) in security camera footage to enable personalized alerts and reduce false notifications.
  • Consent: Biometric features are disabled by default. You must explicitly opt in and provide informed consent before any biometric data is collected or processed.
  • Retention: Biometric data (face templates) is retained only while the feature is active. When you disable facial recognition or delete your account, all biometric data is permanently destroyed within 30 days.
  • Sharing: Biometric data is never sold, leased, traded, or shared with third parties. Processing occurs exclusively on Sentinel-controlled infrastructure.
  • Security: Biometric data is encrypted at rest and in transit, stored separately from other personal information, and access is restricted to automated processing systems only.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate personal data
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data, subject to legal retention requirements
  • Portability: Request your data in a portable, machine-readable format
  • Opt-out: Disable specific data collection features (e.g., facial recognition, audio recording) at any time through your account settings
  • Non-discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@sentinel-security.com or through your account settings. We will respond within 30 days.

7. Children's Privacy

The Sentinel Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, contact us immediately and we will delete it.

Sentinel cameras may incidentally capture images of minors in the course of home security monitoring. Such captures are treated as security footage subject to the retention policies described in Section 3 and are not used for any purpose other than security monitoring.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Material changes will be communicated via email and in-app notification at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.

Prior versions of this policy are available upon request.
